SF Selection and Q CourseEdit
- Be between the ages of 18-35
- A soldier with the Armed Forces with the rank of E-5 Sergeant or O-3 Captain
- A qualified Airborne Paratrooper
The Special Forces Selection Course is 24 Days in durration held at Camp Mackall at the John F. Kennendy Special Warfare Center and School. The selection includes a 20km Fast March, a 50km Endurance March and a 80km Navigation exercise known as the "Star"Course. Candidates may not get selected even if they complete Selection.
Phase II currently consists of 24 weeks of intense language training. Upon completion of this training, candidates are required to attain a minimum rating score (1/1) in their assigned language, scored on the Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI).
Phase III, which is a 13-week block of instruction in Small Unit Tactics (SUT) including raids, ambushes, patrols, reconnaissance, and other strikes against enemy forces. Students learn how to properly plan these operations using Warning Orders, Operations Order, and Frag Orders, as well as other mission planning techniques. The students will plan, present, lead and execute these operations. This part of phase III focuses on small unit tactics and patrolling. During Phase III, students also attend the three week Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape (SERE) course.
Following the completion of Phase III, candidates then begin Phase IV, for specific training within one of the five initial Special Forces specialties: 18A – Detachment Commander for commissioned officers and 18B – Weapons Sergeant, 18C – Engineering Sergeant, 18D – Medical Sergeant, and 18E – Communications Sergeant for non-commissioned officers. The 18A, 18B, 18C, and 18E training courses are 16 weeks long while the 18D training course is 48 weeks long.
The candidates culminate their Special Forces training by participating in Operation ROBIN SAGE, a 4 week long large-scale unconventional warfare exercise conducted by the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School at Fort Bragg, North Carolina and over 50,000 square miles (130,000 km2) of North Carolina. For more than half a century, around a third of North Carolina has served as the fictional "People's Republic of Pineland" for the 28-day exercise which culminates in the 19-day Robin Sage. Pineland consists of Alamance, Anson, Cabarrus, Chatham, Davidson, Davie, Guilford, Hoke, Montgomery, Moore, Randolph, Richmond, Rowan, Scotland, Stanly and Union Counties of North Carolina. During this unconventional warfare training exercise, the Special Forces students are required to apply and exercise the skills taught in the Special Forces Qualification Course.
The students are put into 12-man ODAs, organized the same way they are in a real mission. Students are isolated for 5 days and issued an operations order. They begin their planning process and study material required to execute their detachment's mission during the exercise.
On the last day of isolation the detachment presents its plan to the battalion command and staff. This plan will explain how the commander intends to execute the mission. The next day, the students make an airborne infiltration into the country of Pineland. They then make contact with the guerrilla forces and begin Robin Sage. Students will then begin their task of training, advising, and assisting the guerrillas. The training will educate the guerrillas in various specialties, including weapons, communications, medical, and demolitions. The training is designed to enable the guerrillas to begin liberating their country from oppression. It is the last portion of the Special Forces Qualification Course before they receive their "Green Berets".
After successfully completing the Special Forces Qualification Course, Special Forces soldiers are then eligible for many advanced skills courses. These include, but are not limited to, the Military Free Fall Parachutist Course (MFF), the Combat Diving Qualification Course and the Special Forces Sniper Course (formerly known as the Special Operations Target Interdiction Course). All Special Forces soldiers conduct real world, non-combat operations in order to maintain their skills. Special Forces Medical Sergeants (18D) often work in both military and civilian Emergency Rooms in between deployments.
Additionally, because one of the Special Forces soldier's primary mission is the instruction of other forces, they participate extensively in special operations training courses offered by other services and allied nations throughout their careers.
Ghost Operators are seleced from the best of the Special Forces Groups. The large majority of Operators are former Rangers from the 75th Ranger Regiment and Delta Force.
Structure and Ghost OperatorsEdit

In April of 2008 civil unrest ensued in Russia after Ultra-nationalists had seized power in Moscow with plans to rebuild the Iron Curtain. Their first step was to support rebel factions in Georgia and the surrounding Baltic States. The United States government sent the Ghosts in to silence the rebellion but Russian forces cross the boarder, forcing the evacuation of allied forces.
The Georgian government, Great Britain, Germany, and the U.S. protested the Russian invasion, but their protests fell on deaf ears. Russia then focused its invasion on the Baltic States on Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. The Ghosts were sent in to slow the invasion forces long enough so that NATO forces could move in from Germany. After months of fighting victories are won in Utena and Rezekne and the Russian invasion force is stopped in Vilnius, Lithuania by NATO forces.
The loss of the Baltic states takes its toll on Russia. President Dmitri Arbatov is blamed for the disaster and placed under house arrest, starting rumors of a coup d'état. The Ghosts were then sent into Russia to free American and Russian POWs opposed to the government. With the assassination of President Arbatov, rebellion took off in Russia nearly sparking a civil war.
The Ghosts were then sent into the naval base at Murmansk and the airbase at Arkhangelsk to put down Ultra-nationalists bases. They destroyed several subs and prototype aircraft, making Russian Forces ineffective in Naval and Air warfare. While the Ghosts were striking the bases, the Ultra-nationalists engaged American and Russian forces based North of Moscow that now opposed the Russian government.
With the Ghosts spear heading the assault, NATO forces launch an invasion of Moscow, destabilizing Ultra-nationalist control. The Ghosts broke through the enemies defenses around Moscow allowing the NATO forces to take Red Square. The Ultra-nationalist leader Prime Minister Karpin, finally surrendered and both the Americans and the newly-liberated Russians celebrated their victory in Red Square. However, the world could still feel the effects of the war for years afterward.
In the 2009, old hostilities between Eritrea and Ethiopia had resurfaced. Colonel Tesfaye Wolde of the Ethiopian military had participated in illegal arms trades with the same Russian ultra-nationalists who launched the coup the previous year. With a newly refurbished arsenal, Col. Wolde seized the opportunity to reclaim Eritrea. The situation garnered international interest when the conflict threatened the shipping lanes in the Red Sea. In response to a plea from the Eritrean government for international support, the Ghosts had been mobilized to stop Col. Wolde from advancing any further.
The events of Ghost Recon: Island Thunder and Ghost Recon: Jungle Storm. Principal people involved: Esteban Ordonez, Priego - FrancLever, Marco Abreu (Jungle Storm). They safeguarded elections in Cuba against the FDG.
The Ghosts take part in the Korean war and stop General Chong-Sun's mad plot.
The Ghosts find and eliminate Asad Rahil in Kazakhstan.
The game takes place over the course of three days in 2013, beginning in Mexico City. A US spy plane carrying Guardrail IX, a device capable of disrupting wireless communications, is shot down over Nicaragua. Intelligence discovers a plot to transfer the device to rebels in Mexico City, and the Ghosts are sent in to retrieve it. One of the rebels is identified as Colonel Carlos Ontiveros, son of Mexican General Ontiveros, and a student of Bud, Mitchell's friend and a UH-60 Blackhawk pilot. The mission is aborted when a coup d'état begins in Mexico City and the Ghosts are ordered to Mexico City immediately, where a summit involving the leaders of the United States: President James Ballantine, Canada: Canadian Prime Minister (unnamed), and Mexico: President Ruiz-Pena, who are signing the North American Joint Security Agreement (NAJSA). The summit is attacked by Mexican revolutionaries, who kill the Canadian Prime Minister, and force the Presidents of the US and Mexico into hiding. Mitchell is sent to safely extract both leaders.
Ballantine is safely evacuated to Air Force One but is unable to take off due to the danger of being shot down. President Ruiz-Pena is evacuated to the US Embassy in Mexico City where a bomb nearly destroys the embassy, and the Ghosts fend off a massive onslaught long enough for help to arrive. The Mexican President agrees to allow US forces to fight the rebels and restore order. Mitchell is tasked with destroying artillery to open the road for an assault on Chapultapec, where 50 M1A2 Abrams tanks given to the Mexican government as part of NAJSA lie idle. He is later ordered to rescue the American tankers who had been training the Mexicans in how to use them and "borrow" a few tanks.
The rebels use Guardrail IX to monitor US communications and the rebel special forces called the Aguila 7 ambush the Ghosts protecting the President. Mitchell is ordered to rescue him. President Ballantine's rescue is successful, but the Nuclear Football is stolen by the rebels and with the Guardrail IX, the rebels are able to control US ICBMs, which cause China and Russia to ready their own.
Mitchell is ordered to retrieve the Guardrail IX and the Football, but he only succeeds in disabling the Guardrail IX. He is then ordered to return to clear several blockades in Mexico City to allow US tanks to pass. While being extracted, Major General Martin's Black Hawk Helicopter is shot down and Mitchell is ordered to defend him until he can be extracted. US forces then begin a final push towards Zocalo Plaza where General Ontiveros is held up inside the Palacio National.
Mitchell is ordered to destroy the last pieces of the Guardrail IX before sneaking into the palace. General Ontiveros is there and was captured while attempting to flee, but Carlos manages to escape and hijacks Bud's Black Hawk, shooting him in the head and greatly angering Mitchell, who sees this happen on his Cross Com. At first Bud seems sad; this is very noticeable should the player look closely at the Cross Com, Bud's eyes seem teary. Mitchell notices this before Bud says: "Well there's not much else to do really." Carlos shoots Bud, then shoves him off and puts on his helmet. Carlos flies to the wrecked US embassy and begins transferring the codes for the US nuclear arsenal. Mitchell and his team raid the embassy, recover the football, and finally track down and kill Carlos. A retired U.S. Army general, James Monroe, who was opposed to the U.S.-Mexican treaty is discovered to be the traitor within the U.S. government that had been assisting the Ontiveros' in their activities.
2 days after the events of Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, Scott Mitchell is ordered to stop enemy activity across the border in the Mexican state of Chihuahua, specificlly Juarez, Mexico. It is revealed that the rebels have got ahold of some WMD's from seized Ukrainian ships in the Panama Canal and were prepared to strike anywhere in the US, according to the Third Echelon. The Ghost's head back across the border to El Paso, Texas to a water treatment plant. The first area they seized, they found that it was the wrong dam. Once they find the right dam, Mitchell and his team seizes' the plant and finds the location of the stolen WMD's. Mitchell identifies and order an air strike, but Mitchell has to identify where the missiles are, thus putting himself in the blast radius.
In 2014 the Ghosts were the subject of a briefing for General Keyes about the future of warfare.

On March 23, 2020, European Federation (EF) uplink sites in the "lawless zone," where Croatia used to be, are attacked by an as-yet unidentified group of terrorists from a beached cargo ship. They are repulsed by EF Enforcers Corps (EFEC) forces. During the battle, the EF attempts to gain access to the cargo ship that the terrorists use but the ship is destroyed before they can gain access. Details of the attack are kept secret. On April 4, 2020, when the final module of the Freedom Star is set to launch from John F. Kennedy Space Center amid international outcry, the same group of terrorists attack the module and attempt to destroy it, using the same methods as the Croatian attack. Once again they are repulsed by the United States Joint Strike Force (JSF) as reports of yet another terrorist attack come in, this time of an assault on the Rozenburg petrol plant in The Netherlands. After being defeated by EFEC forces, the terrorists identify themselves as the "Forgotten Army" comprised of people from a collection of failed states in the Balkans, Africa and South America. Following a final terrorist attack, this time on a Russian power plant near Minsk, the US finds "conclusive evidence" that the European Federation's defense minister, François Pulain, funded the Forgotten Army with modern military equipment. They send a black-ops team to abduct him while he inspects the Copenhagen uplink network, but an anonymous call by Russia informs Danish police and together with EFEC forces trap the team in one of the uplinks. On April 7, 2020, The US crashes Copenhagen's uplinks and sends in JSF units to rescue the trapped team. The US successfully repels the EFEC's first attack, but European forces are able to counter-attack and reboot Copenhagen's uplinks in their favor, forcing JSF forces to surrender and allowed US safe passage back. While emergency peace talks are held in London, it is revealed (to the player only) that Russia funded the Forgotten Army's attacks as well as planting the evidence against Pulain, citing the need to keep the EF and the US from uniting in order to take Russia's oil. To ensure that war is sparked between the two powers, elements of the Spetsnaz Guard Brigade (SGB) embark on a covert operation to upload a virus into the European SLAMS network at Rovaniemi air base in Finland. The virus causes an E.F orbital laser satellite to shoot down the new Freedom Star module during lift off, thinking it to be an ICBM. The entire crew is killed, and news reports blaming problems from from "Malfunction" to "Terrorist Hijacking" to (finally) "E.F. Satellite." This final act starts a war between the two powers. Russia initially joins the U.S under the guise of "aiding it in its crusade against Europe" and invades E.F. controlled Poland, but the United States sees this as an attempt to reform the Eastern Bloc and attacks Russia. World War III has begun.
During World War III, the Ghosts also fought in England and in Dubai during the hunt for the "Snow Maiden."
The Ghosts continued operations during World War III. Three teams were on the ground during the Russian invasion of Poland, and were saved by a JSF gunship pilot. After Major Dennison, a brainwashed agent disappeared, General Mitchell deployed Ghost teams to look for her. Mitchell himself oversaw the assault on the Spetznaz headquarters at Fort Levski.

In South America, tensions were increasing. Seeing the weakness of the United States and hoping to break free of their influence and establish their own regional power-bloc, a nationalist anti-US alliance known as Las Trinidad launched an invasion of US-friendly Brazil, but was pushed back by Artemis forces hired by the Brazilian government. Shortly after a Las Trinidad attack on Rio de Janerio is repulsed, the United States officially enters the conflict, taking direct control over the military efforts against Las Trinidad and leaving Artemis increasingly marginalized, weakening the company's fiscal position. Feeling that there is no profit left in serving the United States or Brazil, the Board of Directors at Artemis, led by Adrian DeWinter, signed a new contract with Las Trinidad, essentially defecting to the anti-US bloc, even as its forces launched an enormous military operation against the United States of America itself. As a result, the former High Altitude Warfare – Experimental Squadron members defected back to the US, and thus the squadron was reactivated.
Artemis' betrayal, and eventual invasion, of the United States took its leadership completely by surprise, and the company's substantial air, land and sea forces made considerable gains in the first twenty-four hours of the attack, severely damaging the White House and sending the President fleeing even as their troops occupied several major American cities like Los Angeles and Chicago, all the while disrupting the American military command structure and throwing their forces into chaos. Fortunately, the intervention of the X-Squad pilots helped to turn the tide against the PMC's forces, first by helping the President to reach safety, then by eliminating the Artemis jamming devices that had paralyzed the US military, allowing them to organize and push the invaders back.
With Washington, D.C. was still in American hands, the President saved, and US forces swiftly mobilizing to combat the invaders with the assistance of their allies such as Japan, the tide had begun to turn against Artemis. However, the CEO of Artemis, Adrian DeWinter, declared that he had stolen some nuclear weapons, and threatened to destroy a major American city unless the President surrendered. Fortunately, the Ghost Special Forces, along with David Crenshaw and the scientists at NASA managed to restore the damaged SLAMS Missile Defense System and retrieve most of the stolen nukes. In desperation, DeWinter almost detonated one in Los Angeles, California, but the device was located and destroyed by the X-Squad before it could be detonated, saving the city. In the end, Artemis Global Security is completely destroyed by the American reprisal efforts, and DeWinter is killed by Crenshaw himself when the latter bombs his secret compound, killing the manic businessman and his Board of Directors.
